Located in the heart of
Andaman Beach, Woodland Lodge has a variety of comfortably furnished and
clean huts for any taste. All of the rooms have toilet and
shower. The Double Bungalows are an especially good
bargain and the Family Bungalows are actually big
enough for the whole family. |

If you're
looking for a hut which is more traditional in design
then you're looking for what Woodland calls its'
Double Bungalows. Generally located in the back of WL
they are slightly smaller and a little cheaper than
the FamBungs, but the walk to the beach is a little
longer: one minute vs. 30 seconds. Nothing at
Woodland is very far from Andaman Beach.
The huts are very, very quiet. With its tile
bathrooms, large beds, wood framing/thatch roof and
mosquito nets these rooms are some of the best
bargains on Koh Jum and I like them a lot. Nice
porches too. |

Want to learn how to cook
ahahn Thai? Woodland owner Kn. Sao teaches cooking
classes and will show you some of her secrets for
creating the unbelievably good food they prepare at
Woodland. After the cooking comes the eating and
Woodland's Restaurant is a good one. The outside
beachfront patio tables are superb. |

WL
owners Ray and Sao lost all of their cheapie bamboo
bungalows along the front and a few of their better
huts were damaged by the Tsunami. All of WL's
beautiful landscaping got washed away (since
replanted) as did the Fighting Fish Bar. The pillars
supporting the roof in the front of the restaurant
got torn away. The force of the water hitting the
retaining wall in front ripped off part of the roof
too, but it didn't collapse. Their longtail ended up
jammed against a bungalow. |

Sadly,
Ray told me that he probably won't be rebuilding the
bamboo cheapies. That's a real shame. They were right
on the dunes by the beach and the traditional/old
style bamboo/thatch design is quickly disappearing
everywhere in SThailand. Pretty soon they'll all be
gone. Everywhere. |

The beachfront
Fighting Fish Bar lost it's battle with the Tsunami,
but they've moved it inside the restaurant and it's a
nice, friendly place for an after-dinner cocktail. |

This is a really friendly,
really nice resort. As testament to just how good WL is,
after the Tsunami when all the other resorts were hurting for
visitors, Ray and Sao's place was full. And they stay busy all
summer long too. If you are planning a trip to Woodland this
winter,
reservations are a
must. Highly recommended. Open all year. |
