Tides
are primarily caused by the gravitational forces of the
moon and the sun. In addition to that there are some
other minor factors which influence the tides. In
general, tidal changes in sea-level are largest on days
around full-moon and new-moon with very high tides
around noon and midnight and very low tides around
sunrise and sunset. On days around half-moon (ascending
or descending half-moon) there are only minor or hardly
noticeable changes in sea-level.
