Jum
Island (also known as Pu Island) is
located
approximately 25 kilometers south of Krabi
(Thailand) on the Andaman Sea. The
mountainous northern part (known as
Koh Pu)
is rugged, rocky, filled with small
rubber plantations and what looks
to me like triple-canopy jungle on
the upper slopes of Mt. Pu (395 m.
high) while the southern part (Koh
Jum) is relatively flat and covered
by the natural vegetation of the
Andaman Coast, casuarinas trees and
screw palms.
The west side of the island has 6
gorgeous
beaches
where most of the
bungalows and resorts
are
located. The
beautiful sunsets on KJum are a
daily celebration. |

Accommodation
on Jum Island varies from
backpacker-cheap
for some very basic huts to
luxurious bungalows
for the most discriminating taste. There is
something for everybody here. |

The
tsunami
changed a lot of things. No one was killed
on KJum, and for that we are eternally
grateful, but the beaches and some of the
resorts took a pounding on that awful day
after Christmas, 2004. The tsunami took
unbroken stretches of beautiful white sand
and turned them into a
coral and garbage
covered mess in the blink of an eye.
All of the beaches have since been
cleaned up and the seawater has regained it's
pre-disaster clarity. |

Come
visit Koh Jum and see for yourself. It's a
friendly,
quiet, different kind of place. |
